What is Magnetic Particle Inspection (MPI)?

MPI machines create a magnetic field around the test component, and fine magnetic particles are applied to the surface. Any discontinuity or crack causes the magnetic field to leak, attracting the particles and making the flaw visible under proper lighting conditions.
If a discontinuity such as a crack or void exists, the magnetic field leaks at that point, attracting the magnetic particles and forming a visible indication of the flaw. This allows inspectors to easily identify and evaluate cracks, seams, laps, or inclusions without causing any damage to the component.
